SNUS history

 

Tobacco plants grow naturally in America and Australia. The indigenous people of America probably used tobacco for pleasure, in rituals and as medicine.

When Columbus came to America, he wrote in his journal that he had seen a man carry on dried leaves. The Spanish sailors also saw that people were burning a torch of tobacco, and that others were burning tobacco in pipes and breathing smoke through their noses.

 

The tobacco plant came to Portugal in the 16th century and got it´s Latin name- Nicotiana Tabacum, after Jean Nicot.

He was an ambassador living in Portugal and sent tobacco home to the royals in France.

For centuries, many believed that tobacco was an herb that could heal wounds and cure diseases. To get the effect, squeeze out juice and apply it to the skin, put the leaves on the skin, or sniff crushed, dried tobacco through the nose.
